Moai is a first-person adventure/survival game where your objective is to find a house and a key. First, you must find the key, then the house, and open the house with the key.

But, there is a Moai statue following you around. Moai will follow you around when you do not expect it, making a distinct sound that can be heard over the sounds of the gloomy night every time he creeps by closer.

After some time, Moai will enter rage mode, wherein he will move a lot faster than he usually does. On top of that, Moai will move faster the closer he is to you.

Controls:

  • WASD - movement
  • SPACEBAR - jump
  • CTRL/SHIFT - sprint/slow down respectively
  • F - interact
  • F11 - toggle fullscreen

System requirements:

This game requires ~128 MB of RAM on default settings (messing with resolution scaling/MSAA can change this number).

Most CPUs from at least 2010 should be able to run this, and most GPUs from at least 2010 should too. For the specifics, this requires (at least) OpenGL 3.3. Support for other rendering APIs (like Vulkan) may come in a later version of my game engine.

If you are experiencing frame drops related to GPU usage, you should turn on performance mode in settings, as this may greatly reduce the GPU usage, particularly in older systems. (if it is unavailable this means that it is force-locked to enabled due to limitations of your hardware)

More information:

The game takes inspiration from a DOOM .WAD by the name of do_not_play.wad, and it also takes a little inspiration from the movement in Source engine games.

Note that this game was originally made as more of a tech demo of my game engine's sound system, but if this idea gets enough traction I may update this, or even remake it while keeping the base concept intact (most likely spicing up the gameplay as well)

Hi there, I am DragonExplosion and I am a Youtuber. If you like my videos, please leave a like and subscribe at my channel.

To be honest, I entered the game after reading the information but like I don't really understand how Moai works and how do I even escape. It would be good if some guidelines or like an introduction sequence about what is going on would be good because currently no one knows what happened to the main character of the game, how he ended up in such a situation and what he is supposed to do. It looks like the main character is running away from something that he doesn't know.

I understand that this is an escape from Moai game and I love the concept of Moai chasing after the player XD. It would be better if there was some form of information about how the escape route looked like or how does the end of the tunnel look like.

Thank you for reading my comment and I wish you good luck in your future endeavours.

thanks for the comment, the basic idea is that a key and a house both spawn on random locations in the map. you have to look for the key, pick it up, then open the house with the key

in retrospect, i should've made a tutorial, or at least made it so that Moai has a difficulty curve of some sort, where the more time you've played for the more dangerous it gets, therefore enforcing you to find the key and the house as fast as possible

there's a little backstory to the game, a friend of mine changed his avatar to a Moai man and we all thought it looked ominous so we started joking around and this game idea came, so i decided to make it lol

there's no actual backstory to the character you are in the game, nor to Moai himself

once i finish updating my game engine i think i will update Moai (particularly since the newer version of my game engine has better support for older hardware)

Thanks for informing me about the features of the game. I will probably try it in my free time to see if I can beat the game.

Thanks for creating the game :). Love the moai idea though XDDDD
